2004 Retailer of the Year
Retailer of the Year
Joe Simons (right), regional estates controller of Boots the Chemists, received the 2004 SCEPTRE Retailer of the Year Award from Ken Ford, chief executive of sponsor The Mall Corporation. The end of May 2004 saw the announcement of a four per cent like-for-like sales increase – the seventh consecutive quarter of growth. The main areas of growth were high dispensing sales from increased marketing of Boots’ prescription collection service, strong sales of cosmetics and fragrance, especially around Valentine’s Day, and food sales returning to growth following the relaunch of the Shapers range.
The retailer is making major investments in making its stores more convenient and accessible to modern shoppers, and plans to open 60 new stores in 2004/5, including a doubling in the number of out-of-town units. Development work for the new Chemist and Convenience formats is being stepped up.
